In 1988, Allentown
landfilled over 63,000 tons of trash. Through recycling and waste
reduction, we have reduced our trash since then by over 40% to approximately
37,000 tons of household waste per year! |
 |
This saves approximately
$600,000 in trash disposal fees annually. Revenues from the sale of
Allentown's recyclables average $150,000
per year. |
We recycle about 16,000
tons annually through:
 |
curbside recycling
and yard waste collections |
 |
leaf collection |
 |
Recycling Drop
Off Center |
 |
yard waste sites |
Businesses, institutions,
schools and non-profit organizations are also doing their part to recycle.
About 18,000 tons are recycled in Allentown every year by the private
sector!

Curbside Collections
comprise about half of Allentown's Residential Recycling Program tonnages.
The remainder is material received at the Recycling Center and the yard
waste sites and leaves collected by the Bureau of Streets.
